We returned to the Maku’u farmers market today. I saw a add on Craig’s list a week ago stating that a farmer who lives in Ocean View (about 1-1/2 hrs away) would be at the market this Sunday selling dragon fruit and plants. This farmers market is quickly becoming my favorite. The prices are the best I’ve found so far and it’s a lot larger then most.

Here are some pictures of a yellow dragon fruit. It was a little sweeter than the purple and a touch smaller.

We paid $4 per lb for the fruit at this market and $10 per plant. Here are the dragon fruit plants we picked up. From left to right; white, yellow, pink and purple. We should be able to easily clone these plants so a $40 investment should be one that lasts a lifetime. One more garden we need to clear and prepare for.

We picked up another avocado today as well. The first picture is today’s, the second one is last weeks but gives you a small taste of the variety available here.

We also grabbed a new banana to try. They are called “praying hands” because of their shape. These are also the ones I commented on and posted pictures of in a previous post called “exotic fruit, what a hoot” the one pictured is smaller but hopefully you can get an idea of its odd shape. It wasn’t as sweet as the apple bananas but still surprisingly tasty.

Papayas are abundant and come in various flavors, this one is a strawberry papaya. Very affordable at around $.25 each.

In closing here is some star fruit, once again, very affordable and similar to eating a green apple.
