We’ve been so busy with building the Ohana house that we really haven’t spent much time working on any gardening. One of our main goals is to farm as much of our own fruits and vegetables as possible. Obviously this will take years to fully establish and its a very slow yet rewording process. We must first clear an area of jungle and then establish the best places for planting our new babies. We have a lot of new trees that are going to need a home in the coming months and the work on the property is very slow going with most things taking days and weeks to complete. Bonny and I have been working very well as a two person army. The first full month of island life has almost set in and we’ve achieved so much but its just a small drop in a huge bucket. By far the most rewarding work I’ve ever done in my life. I can’t wait to look back on the pictures of these plants and trees and see how they’ve grown. With all the stuff we still need to build and all the plants we still need to find permanent homes for, it’s really hard to say what task we will choose to tackle next. I hope to find more time like this to write a little bit more about my thoughts and feelings as we embark on this great journey. It’s amazing in ways I would have never imagined.
Here is a picture of our Hawaiin ranch from on top of the container looking North. Water catchment off of the roof of the Ohana house is at the top of the list of endless things to do. Once in place all we have to do is build an outdoor shower and set up a tankless water heater, might as well build a covered cooking area too.
