I’m proud to announce that we officially live on a ranch in Hawaii. The other day at work, a coworker offered me a wild bore that had been trapped and removed from someones property. Bonny and I had discussed getting some piglets so I accepted the hog free of charge. Now that we have a live stock, and some fruits and vegetables growing, I’m officially calling our 3 acre’s a ranch. I like the sound of “Sailer Shore’s Ranch”, although it is very similar to the small subdivision being built behind my parents house right now (“Sailor Shores” I believe is the name, which they didn’t spell right!), I think we’ll keep calling it that.
As far as the pig it’s self, it’s about 45 lbs, a sow, and as wild as a rabid pitbul! Bonny went ahead and named her Peggy, I said “make sure you call her Peggy pot roast, because that’s where she’s going in the end!”. She’s the first “plant” in our meat garden. We’ve only had her for about 10 days now and she’s finally starting to calm down a little bit. She was very aggressive when we first got her, constantly charging the pin and trying to bite anything she can get a hold of. I think she’s starting to realize where her food comes from because her demeanor is slowly improving. Bonny brings home the expired food from work so we have free access to plenty of slop to feed her. We haven’t made any plans for when she will be harvested but she’ll make a great luau when we do.
