Okay, so maybe it hasn’t been 87 years since we moved, but believe it or not, it has been just over one full year.  November 2nd marked one year to the day that Bonny and I packed up everything we’ve ever known and moved to Hawaii in pursuit of the american dream.  The adventure has been one of a life time.  We proudly started our Hawaiian adventure by living in a 20′ shipping container, after about three months we had a small guest house built that we still call our temporary home as construction on the main Sailer estate continues.  We’re estimating a completion date to be sometime in the first quarter of 2017 assuming we don’t hit any more unforeseen delays.  I’m very proud of my wife and the progress we’ve made working as a team in this short period of time.

The other day I found myself thinking “is this the hardest thing you’ve ever done in your life?”, and I really don’t feel like it is, but it’s definitely had it’s challenges emotionally and mentally.  I miss my family and friends more then I ever have but it’s also the longest period of time I’ve ever been away from them as a whole.  In a lot of ways I’m just thankful that I can still call so many of them and talk on the phone knowing they are alive and well still on this earth.  I’m also thankful that it’s a chosen solitude that’s helping me better myself and my relationship, just like everything in life, it comes at a price, some days it’s easier to pay then others.

Hawaii is such an amazing place to live and explore, this winter has already had some pretty insane weather.  This week alone the Mauna Kea Summit is estimated to get 20-30″ of snow and the rain we’ve received has the waterfalls running at fully capacity which is an incredible force to witness.  There’s a new adventure for every day if you have the time to tour this big island.  I’m really pushing to get the house done for this very reason, we would both like to be spending more time finding new beaches and cliffs to jump off of.  Not to mention we have a lot of other projects planned for the property that will commence once the house is complete.  Yes, it’s a more laid back life style, but the fast pace of life is for now overwhelming while we’re in pursuit of our own happiness.

Here’s some photos from our first year on the island.  We hope you enjoy them and we also hope you miss us as much as we miss you.
