Bonny and I hiked into Shipmans Beach Park last weekend, this is only a short 25 minute drive from the house to reach the trail head.  From there we hiked about 2.5 miles into the actual beach (with sand) and swam for a little bit and then hiked back out.  This is an extremely easy hike with about 10′ elevation change on average.  It is a little muddy but the trail is wide and a lot of the mud is avoidable.  We took Sig with us so he could get out and stretch and swim, he loved it.  Along the way you’ll find several spots to stop and fish.  The trail its self is actually the old “road” (the term “road” being used loosely) that the locals would take to travel from Pahoa to Hilo before more modern roads were installed.  It’s a spot we’ve wanted to check out for a while and finally made the time to hike in and check it out.  Definitely worth the hike and would be  a great place to spend the day.  Hiking out we passed several people heading in, and when we first arrived at the beach their was about 20 people already their.  In comparison to other beaches that are more easily accessed, this one had minimal people and it’s fairly close to the house.  Here’s some pictures for your viewing pleasures.  Enjoy!
