Now that we have substantial proof of residency we’ve signed up for the local library system.  Here in Hawaii it’s a state wide system.  I’m really not that familiar with the system we had on the main land (sorry mom).  State libraries can be found in many of the local towns, you can search the states data bank for books and it will show you what library they are currently located at if they aren’t immediately available, you then request them and they will mail them to your closest location.  We have a library in Mountain View that is right inside the middle school, their is also one in Keaau which is a few miles farther down the hill.  You can return your books to any location so it’s really a pretty convenient system they’ve set up.  They also have public computers you can use, your limited to one hour of use but they will extend it if no one is waiting to use the computers.  The Library in Hilo is good size and has a beautiful out door area with lots of tables and room to sit and read or connect to the wifi and use your tablet or laptop to surf the web.  Wifi use is only limited by the hours of operation which varies by location.  Here’s a picture of the Hilo libraries out door area that I was talking about.

We’ve been checking out lots of books, Bonny more then my self, but mainly use the system for the free internet access.  Not to mention it’s much easier to blog with an actual key board.  Hunting and pecking on the I-Pad is not the ideal way to write.  For as dis-functional as so many public systems are everywhere, I’m pleasantly surprised with the simplicity and convenience of the library system.  Good job Hawaii.
