Bonny and I have been here almost a full 2 moths now and we’ve had plenty of time to become acclimated to the local climate.  Our small ranch/compound is at around 2,000′ in elevation.  Winter here is very much like a summer night in the mountains of Idaho but much wetter.  It gets hot during the day almost as soon as the sun rises but it’s kind of chilly at night.  We’ve been dipping down into the mid to low 50’s at night.  I know most of you are reading this right now and saying, “boo hoo, you poor thing!”  I’m sure 50 degrees sounds like adequate swimming weather right now to almost all of you but it really is kind of chilly with the nearly 100 percent humidity we have almost all of the time.  I’m glad I packed a plethora of hoodies to wear here in the winter, although they are practically worthless to wear in the rain since cotton absorbs water so easily.  We got over 2.5 inches last night alone. The water tank has also hit full in case anyone was wondering. It’s settled a little but so far so good.

Sea level is always warm here and you can go swimming year round but you better pay attention to the surf, the ocean in Hawaii, especially on our side of the island tends to be very treacherous in the winter months with high, unpredictable surf.  So contrary to popular belief, winter does exist here in Hawaii, nothing like Idaho or the East Coast but its still been cold.
