With a little help from a local Idahoan (Zak), we were able to get our water catchment tank set up this week. I built a small stand for the base and then we muscled it into place. Ten foot of gutter from the home depot and a little trip to the plumbing department and we are good to go. The tank is slowly filling with water, I would anticipate it being full in a couple of days. As far as the base goes I’m not really sure if the ground underneath it is going to support the weight. Obviously I’m not an engineer so hopefully I’ve stabilized the ground enough to support close to ten thousand pounds. The tank it’s self is designed to hold 1,225 gallons. I think water weights around 8lb per gallon, so according to my calculations that’s a shit ton! I will be keeping a close eye as it fills to make sure it’s not going to fall into the Ohana house and then begin it’s death role towards the jeep. Here are some pictures of the tank and plumbing.
We have been averaging about 1.5 inches of rain per day for the last four days in a row and the tank is about halfway full. The base has settled a little so far but not enough to be concerned, yet. Having running water will be nice, now we just need to set up a shower area and add a tankless water heater and one more basic amenity will be complete.
