The featured image was taken driving down our road, about 100yds from our driveway. You can see the ocean in the distance.

Today we went to the local farmers market in Maku’u which is near Pahoa. It’s about a 30 minute drive from our place. There’s a nice little shortcut through a neighboring subdivision down the hill a few miles from ours. It doesn’t save you a whole lot of time but it is a shorter distance and it gave us a nice view of a new neighborhood on the island we hadn’t got to see yet.   Take a look at the size of some of these bananas and avocados, I can’t remember what kind of bananas these are but they’re used for cooking.  I’m not exactly sure what they make with them but they are massive, almost rectangular in shape.  Notice the avocado in the picture just above the Pepsi can, it is large enough to kill if it fell out of a tree and hit you. Almost the size of a bowling ball.

We picked up some local strawberry papaya, tangelos, apple bananas, avocado, and macadamian nuts.  The prices at this market were very competitive and it’s a very large market that is only open on Sundays. We will be returning to it in the future, next Sunday they will have Dragon fruit there and I plan to buy some plants and fruit. Hopefully I’ll get some different colors to take pictures of and post.

The Apple bananas are always good, the tangelos we got today are amazing but have been hit-n-miss in the past, it’s kind of hard to go wrong with avocados and the macadamia nuts are cheaper than the ones at the store but there is a noticeable quality difference.
